what I used:
1. A paperback book ( I bought one from the dollar store-approx 250 pages)
2. Orange spray paint-(color was called pumpkin orange so, I found it fitting)
3. A stick I found in my yard and broke it down to be a little smaller.
4. Brown Paint.
5. I bought a bag of fake fall leaves also at the dollar store (50 leaves for $1 and used 3 leaves).
6. A fraction of a small amount of brown felt.
7. Hot glue.
8. scissors.
9. A piece of paper.
10. A Pencil. ( yup, I'm pretty sure that's all.)
I started by drawing a pumpkin-ish shape out of paper. and cutting it out.
I tore the cover off of the book. wrapped my cut out pumpkin-ish shape around the book (the small middle part of the cut out wrapped around the binding of the book-sorry no photo)
I traced the outter circular shape onto the book with a pencil and cut the shape out of the book ( I could cut about 7 pages at a time with ease). After cutting out the pages trace what you cut onto the next page and continue cutting and tracing and cutting until all pages have been cut. At this point my thoughts were that it wasn't going to look the way I wanted. It was hard to get all the pages cut near the binding of the book.
After all of that I folded the binding together to give it a circular shape and used some hot glue to hold it together. I wanted to give my pumpkin a full and rustic appeal. I had to glue a few pages to each other to avoid a bunch of gaps...I put a small amount of hot glue on the interior of the pages closes to the binding and just stuck it to the page closest to it. I went through the book and ruffled up each page to give it the full look.
Cutting the pages to pumpkin shape was the most time consuming part of this project. when i was done cutting it out, I did do some touch ups to get some of the binding off and such-be careful with any touch ups because I found it easy to be able to get carried away with them. ruffling the pages will definitely disguise a bunch of the parts that you may not be in favor of.
I took my pumpkin outside and shook up my can of spray paint and painted it up. I stood pretty far back back because I didn't want to loose the print and I wanted the paint to really stay on the edges of the book. You will have to turn the pumpkin upside down and paint the other side as well.
While my pumpkin was drying I went outside found a stick and painted it a dark chocolate brown.
After everything was dry, I glued the now chocolate brown stick to the top of my orange book pumpkin with some hot glue {because hot glue is amazing and I use it as much as possible}. Around the stick I could see some of the hot glue so I took some fake fall leaves and glued them around. I used two green fake leaves and 1 orange leaf to give it a little color. I also cut very thin pieces of dark brown felt to make little curly squiggly's. I rolled them into I tight circle and sprayed it with hairspray to hold the curly-ness to it. It held the curl very well a little to well so i unraveled it and played with it a little so that it was still curly but, loose at the same time, and glued it under the leaves to hide the glue. and taa-dahh, the beautiful pumpkin was done. I hope that the instructions for this make sense. I took some pictures during the process of this but, not as many as I should have. This is my first tutorial and next time I will make sure to include more photo's to help discard any confusion.!!
Again, this was my end result and I am absolutely in love with it. It turned out so well!
